Can I donate this?

What condition do my donations need to be in?

Gently used: clean, complete and working, with no stains, tears or missing parts. Tags and original packaging aren't needed - if you'd happily hand it to a friend, it's good to go.

Do I need to wash clothes before donating?

Yes, please. The organizations we support need things that are ready to use as they arrive, so wash and fully dry everything before you pack it. Ironing optional.

Can I donate stained, torn or worn-out clothes?

Not through a pickup - the organizations we support need things that are ready to use as they are, so anything stained, torn or needing repair can't go. A local textile recycling drop-off is your best bet.

Can I donate used toys and stuffed animals?

Yes - as long as sets are complete, parts work and everything is wiped down. Stuffed animals should be freshly washed, with no rips or loose parts. We can't take broken or recalled toys - if you're unsure, search cpsc.gov/Recalls. More on donating toys.

Can I donate used shoes?

Yes - all types, from sneakers to boots, as long as they're clean, wearable and in pairs. Tie the laces together or add a rubber band so each pair stays matched. More on donating shoes.

Can I donate old textbooks?

Yes, if they're under 10 years old. Novels, picture books and every other genre are welcome at any age - just not water-damaged or torn. More on donating books.

Can I donate furniture or appliances?

They're coming soon to the Bay Area - raise a request on the bulk donation page and we'll let you know when they open.

Can I donate mattresses, bedding or towels?

Not at the moment - mattresses and household textiles like sheets, towels and curtains aren't part of our pickups. If that changes, we'll list them here first.

Can I donate car seats or cribs?

Sorry, no. Car seats have expiration dates, and both car seats and cribs can be subject to safety recalls we can't check at your door. Baby clothes, shoes, books and toys are always welcome.

Can I mix categories in one pickup?

Absolutely. Clothes, books and toys in one booking is the norm, not the exception.
